Due to unforeseen circumstances, the President of the Newtown Business Association has found it necessary to resign. This leaves the Association with only 1 of the 4 board member offices filled. This is not enough to conduct business or run the Association per the current By-Laws. As well, the meetings have only had 2 - 3 business owners attending on average. Whether this is due to a lack of interest, or due to the business community finding a lack of value, there is not enough participation for the association to be an effective body.
Therefore, at the scheduled Quarterly meeting, July 17, 2018, at 0830 hours, a motion will be presented by the Vice President to dissolve the Association. The meeting is at the fire station in Newtown.
Any member in good standing and having paid their 2018 dues is welcome to attend, raise discussion, and vote on the motion to dissolve. Any business owner, who having been a member in the past, and wishes to pay their 2018 dues prior to the scheduled quarterly meeting, may also attend, raise discussion, and vote on the proposal.
The vacant offices of the Newtown Business Association by the July 2108 meeting will be: President,Treasurer, and Recording Secretary.
They will all need to be filled by at least two more business owners in order to conduct business per the current By-Laws. A single person is allowed to hold two positions on the board, though, in the long run, this is not in the best interest of this or any board. In this instance it is an acceptable patch to allow the Association to function till more interest could be generated.
As Winterfest has been organised primarily by the Newtown Busness Association, this will now have to be picked up and run by another entity.
To this point, Winterfest meetings have been conducted and some progress has been made for a 2018 event.
